The master thesis is a scientific piece of work, therefore, we have to follow the guidelines to write scientific technical papers.
In general, this structure looks like this:
1. Introduction
2. State of art (Literature review)
3. Problem analysis
4. Method
5. Procedure
6. Results
7. Discussion and Outlook
Ok, now let’s bring your proposed structure into this format:
1. Introduction
· Motivation / field of thesis (what is the purpose of the thesis)
· Basic terminology (definitions, terms, key knowledge to understand the following chapters)
2. Literature review
· The general field (find and discuss scientific papers. You can split into sub-topics: healthcare, robotics, AR)
· The specific field (robotics+healthcare+AR)
· Summary (what did you learn from the literature review? In an ideal case you can argue from the literature, that we need to have a tool, that helps nursing personnel to control healthcare robots .. and AR might be an option for that 😉
3. Problem analysis
· Research questions (define 2-4 RQ’s that you can answer through your thesis – these RQ must somehow be relevant for example from the literature review)
· Solution options (what options do you have to find answers to RQs?)
· Discussion of the options (pro/con, use a table)
4. Method
· (Describe the specific method you use to answer RQs, this can be two parts:)
· Software (what needs to be developed – don’t only explain what you did, but also options how you could have developed it)
· Experiment (what needs to be evaluated – don’t explain the experiment you plan, but also other options how you could have done different experiments)
5. Procedure
· Software Implementation (here you can describe some programming details, not too much source code)
· Experiment (e.g. how many test runs, what devices you used, the final steps you had to do to run the experiment)
6. Results
· Describe the outcome (no discussion here, just plain presentation of facts and figures)
· Answer the RQs.
7. Discussion and outlook
· Discuss: What does the result mean to the RQs? What needs to be done in future?
My RQs is:
My RQs is:
Why is integrating an AR interface with a robot a good idea?
What are the main technical challenges involved?
